Symptoms :

You will put on more weight and feel heavy most of the time. It is possible for you to feel the uterus by placing your fingers beneath the stomach. Many women would have gained 13-15 pounds by the end of this week. You can always discuss with your doctor whether you are on the right track. Weight gain of one would-be mom varies with that of the other. You need not have to worry as long as you are eating and sleeping healthy.

There can be urgent need for urination for many women. It is normal at this stage of pregnancy. For some women there can be slight dizziness or uncomfortable feeling occasionally. Make sure that you are not over-exerting yourself by walking and making rapid movements. You are showing very much at this stage of 18th week during the second trimester of pregnancy. Do not bother about the stretch marks on your belly since it will subside after delivery and get unnoticed. Some women may feel itchy due to the increased growth of belly. By now you have got used to heartburn and indigestion problems and learnt what to eat and when to eat. Always stick on to small amount of foods in frequent intervals. If any of the symptoms are bothering you don’t hesitate to talk to your doctor during next visit.

Development of the Baby :

The bones of the baby would just begin hardening and this is called as ossification. The leg bones and more particularly the thigh bone gets stronger first than any other bone. His ear bones would also harden subsequently making him easy to hear any sounds. Now the baby is about 5-6 inches long and weighs 5-6 ounces.

Your baby will continue to make movements whenever he/she likes and you can feel them as well. The growth rate may get reduced when compared with the earlier weeks but now the baby will learn to make new movements like bending and stretching his arms and limbs. In case your baby is a girl then it is time for the development of uterus and fallopian tubes which would move to right positions.

Tips for the Week :

Some women would get anxious and worried if they are missing any signals or movements inside. But don’t worry and everything is normal. Fetal movements are not really expected until the baby has completed 23 weeks and hence be relaxed and happy if you are getting occasional signals from your baby. Maybe he is busy in building up his body and other organs.

Don’t forget to take medications as prescribed by your doctor. You have to discuss with your doctor in case you are taking any other drug so that she may prescribe some alternative that does not harm your baby. Get involved in all routine activities as long as you are not feeling tired.
