Appendix is a small organ extending from large intestine and it does not have any positive function. It measures about 3.5 inches long and looks like a small tube. Appendix pain is caused when there is inflammation on the appendix due to infection. Severe form of infection requires immediate surgery failing which there is chance for the appendix to burst inside causing serious complications. If the entire infectious materials are poured into the abdomen during the bursting process of appendix it can cause serious inflammation in the abdomen which should be treated on emergency basis.
For some people, pus filled infection forms outside the appendix region which would eventually separate from the abdomen thereby preventing any abdominal infection. Most of the cases of appendicitis require immediate surgery.
If the appendix area gets blocked due to the accumulation of stool or any other foreign particles it gets inflamed. Sometimes cancerous cells block the area causing infection.
